We want every bidder and seller to be able to use Equip-Bid, including people who rely on assistive technology. We are working toward WCAG 2.1 Level AA, we build the platform with keyboard, screen reader, and mobile accessibility in mind, and we want to hear from you if anything gets in your way.
1 Our commitment
At Equip-Bid we want our online auction marketplace to work for everyone, including people who use assistive technology such as screen readers, Braille displays, or TTY. We are working to meet, and we aim to conform to, the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1 at Level AA, and we are tracking the newer 2.2 guidelines as we improve.
Our platform is actively developed, so some areas may not yet fully meet that standard. We review accessibility regularly, fix issues as we find them, and welcome your feedback to help us get there faster.
2 How we build for accessibility
We design the platform with these practices in mind:
- Keyboard navigation. Core pages, forms, and interactive elements are built to be reachable and operable with a keyboard, using a logical tab order and managed focus.
- Screen reader support. We use semantic structure, ARIA labels, and role attributes so navigation and interactive controls can be announced by screen readers.
- Alternative text. Our pages are built to support descriptive alternative text for images, and we work to improve coverage across the site.
- Accessible forms. We label inputs, including bidding and checkout fields, and provide descriptions where they help.
- Status messages. Loading states and validation messages are built to be announced so you know what is happening.
- Responsive layouts. The site adapts to different screen sizes and supports browser zoom and text scaling.
3 Marketplace and seller content
Equip-Bid is a marketplace, so much of what you see on an auction, including item photos and descriptions, is created by the sellers who list it. We build the platform to be accessible and we encourage accessible listings, but the quality of seller-supplied content can vary.
4 Assistive technology we support
We aim to work well with common assistive technologies, including:
- Screen readers such as JAWS, NVDA, and VoiceOver
- Keyboard navigation and focus management
- Browser zoom and text scaling
- Mobile accessibility features on phones and tablets
